  • The Board Election Begins Soon

    Jul 18, 2022, 11:05 AM By MOSERS

The 2022 Board Election is just around the corner. As a MOSERS member, your employees will have the opportunity to cast their vote in the Board Election process. For active members, their vote will have an impact on who will hold two of the eleven positions on the MOSERS Board of Trustees.

The third-party election administrator will mail an election notice on August 10 to all eligible members. This includes all active and retired members. In addition, the election administrator will email eligible members who have a valid email on file with MOSERS alerting them that the election is open for voting. Encourage them to check their inboxes and update their email information with us.

Eligible members will have six weeks to vote online or by phone. The election period ends on September 21, 2022. For more information, or to see the candidate bios, check out the Board Election page.

    Attention CURP Employers!

Please remind your eligible employees of the recent amendment to the MOSERS Transfer of CURP Membership rule. Participants in CURP who were employed prior to January 1, 2011 and who wish to transfer from CURP to the MSEP 2000 defined benefit pension plan, must have the transfer form filled out, signed, and to their HR department on or before December 31, 2020. Please visit the CURP page of our website and see below for additional information.

On November 19, 2020, the Missouri State Employees’ Retirement System (MOSERS) Board of Trustees amended the Transfer of CURP Membership rule.

Effective January 1, 2021, after participating in CURP for at least six years and still employed in a CURP covered position, you may elect to transfer from CURP to the MSEP 2011 defined benefit pension plan administered by MOSERS.

A MOSERS defined benefit pension provides a guaranteed lifetime benefit amount based on years-of-service (from transfer date) x final average pay x a multiplier in addition to a possible temporary benefit until age 62. Upon transfer,

    • You will immediately become a vested member of the MSEP 2011. As a member of the MSEP 2011, you must contribute 4% of pay to MOSERS.
    • You must meet age and service requirements. The MOSERS MSEP 2011 defined benefit pension plan’s normal retirement is age 67 or earlier (minimum age 55) if retirement age and service under MOSERS equals 90.
    • You won’t receive credit in MOSERS for service rendered while participating in CURP. Your MOSERS pension benefit will be calculated based on your MOSERS service only.
    • You will forfeit all rights to future participation in CURP (i.e., you can’t go back to CURP). However, you’ll continue to own and control your CURP account with TIAA.

For calculation purposes, the six-year period begins after you’re initially employed in a position covered by the CURP and ends six years later. It includes time for breaks in service, sabbaticals or leaves of absence. If you have questions about the MSEP 2011 defined benefit pension plan, please contact a MOSERS benefit counselor at (800) 827-1063.

If you have approached or are approaching eligibility to participate in this transfer provision, please review the Transferring from CURP to MOSERS Brochure.

  • Are You Getting Ready to Retire?

    Jan 6, 2020, 9:06 AM By MOSERS

    2020 Schedule Coming Soon!

Employees who are within five years of retirement eligibility will soon be able to register to attend a Ready to Retire (PreRetirement) Seminar or Webinar! The 2020 schedule for MSEP & MSEP 2000 seminars, as well as MSEP 2011 seminars and online webinars will be available on MOSERS’ website in mid-December.

MSEP & MSEP 2000 Ready to Retire (PreRetirement) Seminars will start again in February 2020.

MSEP 2011 Ready to Retire (PreRetirement) Webinars and Seminars will begin in March 2020.

Watch the mail in your office for our 2020 Ready to Retire Schedule poster. When you receive it, please hang it in a common area, such as a breakroom, so that your employees will be aware of upcoming seminars.

Members must be registered to attend. A spouse or guest is welcome to attend with a member, even if they are not a state employee, but they must be registered as well. If the guest is also a state employee within five years of retirement eligibility, they should register separately (as a member) in order to receive their own personalized benefit estimate.

Similar to the past few years, 2019 Ready-to-Retire (PreRetirement) seminars filled early in the year and stayed full. MOSERS educators presented more than 90 seminars providing information to nearly 3,500 members through in-person sessions across the state, on university campuses, and via online webinars. Once registration opens, encourage employees who are planning to retire in 2020, or within the next five years, to log in through myMOSERS to view the seminar schedule and register for a session.

If the member (or member’s guest) is unable to attend after registering, they should contact MOSERS as soon as possible at (800) 827-1063, to cancel and/or reschedule. This will allow us to provide an accurate headcount to the caterer, venue, etc., and contact members who may be on a waiting list to attend.

Also, remember that all HR representatives are encouraged to attend a seminar at any stage in their career to familiarize themselves with MOSERS and the benefits we offer.
