If you were first employed in a benefit-eligible position with the state of Missouri prior to January 1, 2011, your plan is a non-contributory, defined benefit pension plan. If you were first employed in a benefit-eligible position on or after January 1, 2011, you are in a contributory defined benefit pension plan, and you contribute 4% of your salary. When you retire, you will get a guaranteed monthly benefit, with cost-of-living adjustments. Your surviving spouse may also be eligible to receive a lifetime survivor benefit. Retirement benefits are based on total credited service and the highest 36 consecutive months of pay. The vesting requirement is 5 years of service.
We offer basic and optional term life insurance. Basic life insurance provides you with life insurance of one times your salary. This coverage is free to you as an employee. You may elect additional life insurance, up to the lesser of 6 times your annual salary or $800,000, whichever is less. The cost of this coverage depends on your age.
You may purchase life insurance on your spouse in increments of $10,000. Coverage for your spouse cannot exceed your optional life insurance coverage. The cost of the coverage depends on your age.
Life insurance is also available for your children. For $2 per month, you can cover all your children with $10,000 of coverage per child. The $2 premium is the same regardless of the number of children covered.
Long-Term Disability insurance coverage is available at no cost to you. There is a 90-day benefit waiting period in the event you become disabled. This benefit will replace up to 60% your pre-disability earnings less any deductible income. While on long-term disability, you continue to accrue creditable service toward pension benefits.
Health insurance is available to you in the form of a PPO plan with deductibles and coinsurance or a high deductible health plan with a health savings account.
