Dec 15, 2021, 8:28 AM By MOSERSOur Employer Training Webinar scheduled for Thursday, December 16, has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. We regret the inconvenience this may cause. However, we are looking forward to presenting this content to our university employer representatives in early 2022. We will provide additional registration details once a future date is determined.

Termination Forms for Retirees
Dec 15, 2021, 8:27 AM By MOSERSAmong the many items covered at Benefits U last September was the importance of submitting termination forms timely, particularly for employees retiring directly from active employment. To calculate pension benefits accurately and pay them on time, we rely on you to submit termination forms for new retirees no later than the first week of the month in which the employee is retiring. We are happy to report that our tracking reports have reduced in size by 50% since Benefits U. Thank you for your continued assistance with this effort!

Correcting Service Errors
Dec 15, 2021, 8:26 AM By MOSERSMOSERS sometimes discovers or is notified of an employee who is working in a benefit-eligible position but not enrolled in MOSERS benefits and needs to have service added. This is typically the result of the employee not being enrolled into the Statewide Employee Benefit Enrollment System (SEBES) at the time of hire or being misclassified as non-benefit eligible when they were entered into SEBES.
As a reminder, all newly-hired benefit-eligible employees (or former employees who have missed at least 30 calendar days of payroll) must be keyed into SEBES on their date of hire, or as soon as possible thereafter.
To add the service, the human resource personnel of the department or agency that employed the member for the dates in question should complete and submit the Application to Correct Service form to MOSERS. This form can be accessed and submitted online through the MOSERS secure Employer Login. Before the service can be added, the department or agency must agree to pay MOSERS any necessary contributions for the period of service. Likewise, members of MSEP 2011 must contribute employee retirement contributions for the period of service. When this occurs, it is the responsibility of the employing agency or department to notify the employee and collect the necessary employee contributions.

SAM II Agencies - Missed Employee Retirement Contributions
Dec 15, 2021, 8:26 AM By MOSERSWhen employee retirement contributions are not withheld from an employee’s payroll check due to service corrections or retroactive enrollments, the missed contribution(s) will be deducted from the employee’s future payroll checks.
In situations when the employee retirement contribution was not deducted from multiple payroll checks, the payment of the missed contributions will be spread over the same number of payroll checks. For example, if employee contributions were not deducted from two payroll checks, catch-up contributions will be collected in addition to regular retirement contributions from a total of two future payroll checks.
MOSERS will notify the Office of Administration (OA) when contributions were not withheld from a member’s payroll and need to be collected. OA will notify the employee’s human resource personnel, who should relay the information to their employee to make them aware of the additional contribution that will be withheld from their upcoming payroll check(s).

Domestic or Sexual Violence Leave

We have added a new leave category for domestic or sexual violence to MOSERS’ Leave of Absence/Back to Work form.
If an employee will not receive pay or is receiving partial or intermittent pay due to an approved domestic or sexual violence leave, please submit a Leave of Absence/Back to Work form via the Employer Login to ensure the employee receives the proper credit towards retirement.
See our Leaves of Absence – Impact on MOSERS Benefits flyer for a complete reference of how various leave types impact MOSERS benefits.

Beware of Financial Planning Emails
Nov 16, 2021, 8:27 AM By MOSERSPlease share the following with your employees: It has recently come to our attention that some employees have received emails from financial planning companies implying they are partnered with MOSERS. The content of the emails suggests that members must pay for a meeting with a retirement counselor and that they can learn how to increase their retirement savings. This is inaccurate. MOSERS has not authorized any outside financial planners to advise our members on their MOSERS benefits.
As a reminder, the services offered through MOSERS and MO Deferred Comp are provided to MOSERS members at no cost. In regard to increasing their retirement savings, MOSERS members have the ability to meet with MO Deferred Comp financial education professionals to help make savings decisions as they prepare for retirement.
We advise all MOSERS members to stay vigilant and double check the email address in messages before clicking on any links.

Benefits U Conference Recap
Oct 13, 2021, 8:29 AM By MOSERSThank you again for attending the 2021 Benefits U Conference! We certainly appreciate all of your feedback and invite you to enjoy the 2021 BU Recap! We have also reviewed and edited the recordings for each track and removed the introduction, breaks, and wrap-up sessions to allow direct access to the session content. All four tracks are on the BU Online page. This is a private channel accessible only via this link. If prompted, you may register to watch the recording by entering your name and email address. Each recording provides a timing breakdown and you may easily move through the recordings by using the progress bar at the bottom once you hit play. Recordings are also available on the BU Webpage.
Phoenix
If you attended BU, you received a sneak peek of Phoenix! Phoenix is the new pension administration system, which you will be using to interact with MOSERS starting in the next 12 to 18 months.
For those of you who attended BU, if you felt overwhelmed with all the information regarding Phoenix, don’t worry! If you did NOT attend Benefits U, don’t worry!
Thorough training and ongoing support are in the future and will be provided closer to our go-live date. Attendees saw how efficient and automated Phoenix will be as it interacts behind the scenes with SAM II and non-SAM II payroll files. This level of automation will improve the accuracy of our member data, which ultimately increases customer service.
If you would like more information regarding Phoenix, you can read past HR Update articles about Phoenix here.
We cannot do what we do without YOU! Thank you for all of the work you put in to help us serve our members.
